EMBAs learn about difference their philanthropy has made

Sep, 2007

Members of the EMBA Class of 2003, who gave more than $25,000 to create a scholarship to support MBA students with international exchanges, enjoyed an intimate lunch with their three scholarship recipients last month.

Frank Zipfinger – class member, donor and Chairman of MallesonsStephenJaques – generously hosted the event at Mallesons’s Melbourne Office, treating everyone to sweeping views of the cityscape over lunch.

“This was a lovely, relaxed occasion to meet the students that our class philanthropy has assisted,” said Class Committee leader, Jan Begg.  “We set up the Scholarship in recognition of the opportunities we received during our time at MBS.  This was a chance for us to learn more about these three special people and the international Business Schools they attended.  It was great to find out how their education has led them to where they are today.”

Campbell Andrews and Jane Lay (both MBA 2007) were the first two recipients of the award.  They studied at the Johnson School, Cornell University and Stern Business School, New York University, respectively.

Katrina Langdon is the newest recipient of the EMBA Class of 2003 Travel Scholarship.  Her exchange at Esade Business School in Spain is already underway, as she plunges headfirst into an intensive language program and begins to discover the hidden gems of Barcelona, in what will certainly be a terrific educational experience.

Together, the three recipients thanked the class members for their support.

Jane commented: “Studying part-time for the MBA was often a balancing act between my professional life, personal life and the School.  Receiving the Scholarship meant I could pour all my efforts into four amazing months at Stern.  I worried less about the financial impact and concentrated more on making the most of opportunities to discover, learn and network with a very different set of teachers and peers.  I’m exceptionally grateful for the difference it made to me.”
