New state-of-the-art learning facilities at MBS

Feb, 2008

Building works have transformed the derelict building adjoining MBS at Carlton into a state-of-the-art learning environment.

Encompassing a large new library, 78-seat lecture theatre, 17 syndicate rooms and an additional flat-floor theatre/meeting room, the refurbished area is a modern and spacious facility for MBS staff, students, alumni and visitors.

New furniture, artwork, and the latest AV equipment have been installed and energy saving components were incorporated into the re-design, which is architecturally sensitive to the original building.

Two entry points beside the Coles and Mawby theatres connect the new area to the ground floor of the main building.

Located on the south side of 200 Leicester Street in what was once a knitting mill, the renovations are part of a School-wide refurbishment to upgrade and extend student learning areas, faculty and staff offices and conference facilities.

The new library opened in January and Chief Librarian, Chris Flegg, says the response has been extremely positive.

"Library staff are delighted at how successfully users have taken up this light-filled new library as a place to study and work. And with the soon-to-be-opened basement area, students will also be able to enjoy a more informal break-out lounge and study area."
