Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare CEO Event
The Asia-Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre co-hosted a seminar with the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare Inc. on 12 November 2010.
Focussed on ‘Our Sector and Social Enterprise', Professor Williamson, Helen Macpherson Smith Chair of Leadership for Social Impact, convened a panel which explored social enterprise opportunities in the Child and Family Welfare sector.
Panel members included: Jason Eades, Koori Heritage Trust, Catherine Harris, Family Life, Cheryl De Zilwa, Windemere Child and Family Services and Stella Avramopoulos, Kildonan Uniting Care.
Mark Daniels, Social Traders, finished the session by giving participants an overview of the resources available and services offered by Social Traders.
Questions considered by the Panel included: the drivers and motivations for establishing a social enterprise; identifying a commercial activity that is viable and sustainable, challenges of ‘mission drift'; the impact of starting a social enterprise on the culture of organisations and on employees and volunteers and the issues that need to be addressed to gain Board support for social enterprise initiatives.
Discussion on the day was lively and interesting - with significant interest in further engagement around social enterprises and social entrepreneurship.
